A recessed LED profile is an aluminium extrusion designed to sit flush or sub-flush within a surface — ceiling plasterboard, wooden flooring, stone cladding, stair treads or wall plaster — with only the diffused LED light visible. What is the difference between recessed and surface-mounted profiles?
Recessed profiles sit inside the surface (ceiling, wall, floor) so only the light slot is visible — giving the cleanest possible finish. Surface-mounted profiles attach onto the surface and are visible as a slim aluminium trim. Recessed requires more preparation work and coordination with other trades, but delivers a superior architectural result.
Can recessed profiles be installed in existing ceilings without major demolition?
For existing plasterboard ceilings, a slot can often be cut and the profile dropped in with minimal disruption — particularly for the slimmer profile series. Plaster-in profiles that need full plastering over are better suited to new construction. We assess the best approach for your specific ceiling construction during a site visit.
What LED strip density is right for recessed ceiling profiles?
For general ambient ceiling lighting, 14–20W/m with a high CRI strip is typical. For narrow accent lines where output is less important than appearance, 7–10W/m is sufficient. For task lighting applications we specify higher-output strips. We calculate the exact requirement for each application based on ceiling height and illuminance target.
